Race 6: Dear Goldie had popped career-best in turf debut May 9, running second in a $25K grass maiden. I voted for regression: Goldie had other ideas. Smooth ride from Tim Thornton, who cut the corner, wheeled out, and mowed them down. Mile on "good" going in 1:39.24.
Race 7: Even Calabrese-Canani cannot sustain 56-percent strike rate over a couple months. After converting with almost all their odds-on chalks, things haven't been quite as smooth the last several racing days. But Tatibitati a workmanlike, pocket-trip 4-5 winner in this $10K N2L claimer. Slow pace, with half-mile split in 47.19 seconds, but decent final time of 1:17.92 for 6.5fs on Poly.
Race 8: Applesolutely Wild made front at eighth pole after perfect stalking trip, but was late to change leads, didn't accelerate all that much, and was run down late by outside-closing Barracuda Bay in this $17.5K N2L claimer. B. Bay had been presser/stalker type, but held for one late run by Lyndie Wade for Bobby Springer.
Race 9: Another solid ride, this time by Jozbin Santana, who was on a very live horse in Charlie Baby, bet from 6-1 morning line to 3-1 at the off. Inside most of the way, eased out on far turn of 9fs Poly race, avoided traffic after straightening away and held clear another widest-running closer, Battle Power. Nine furlongs in 1:52.56 off a 49.81 second half in this Illinois-bred N1X alw. Pace-setting Terrific Tim got nothing.
