Upon further review, trainers Steve Asmussen and Gary Contessa did not enter the day tied for the lead in wins at Aqueduct. Contessa actually held a 10-9 lead.
But after Asmussen (Toby Sheets at the helm of the New York division) won the first with Hoppsey ($17.20) and the third with Zip to the City ($8.50), the stable has moved ahead of Contessa, 11-10. Asmussen out of ammunition today while Contessa still has horses to run in three races.
Still, Asmussen is 11 for 27 at this meet -- and has won with his last four starters here beginning Wednesday with Dr. W and continuing Thursday with Rule by Night _ while Contessa is 10 for 55 through Saturday's third.
Zip to the City, who rallied powerfully under Channing Hill, was making first start for Asmussen stable.
