Those who hammered Early Argument to 1-4 status had to sweat out the final half-mile of Wednesday's second race. Not only did the horse appear to force Broadway Philly to take up midway down the backside, but the horse was laboring to hold off Ruling Decision at the wire, winning by a head.
Remarkably, those who bet on Early Argument did not have to sweat out an inquiry as the stewards did not post the inquiry sign and made the race official. Jockey Club Steward Ted Hill admitted that jockey David Cohen aboard the winner, made it tight on Edgar Prado, but said it didn't cost Prado's mount that much.
Well, Prado and his mount Broadway Philly finished a well-beaten fourth after checking then going to the outside to once again chase Early Argument.
Regardless of whether there should have been a disqualification or not, there should have at least been an inquiry. At least the betting public would know that someone is halfway paying attention
Also of note in the race... Fast Spender was vanned off after being pulled up by jockey Cornelio Velasquez.
