Mr. Fantasy, ridiculously overbet at 2-5 especially given his last race, dueled outside of Dr. W and appeared to put that one away in upper stretch. But at the eighth pole, Mr. Fantasy, under Ramon Dominguez, was shortening stride allowing Dr. W., under David Cohen, to come back along the rail and nail him at the wire of the Billy Redcoat Stakes for New York-breds.
Mr, Fantasy, a talented 3-year-old, just has not come back the same following surgery. Groomedforvictory was absolutely awful in his seasonal return.
Dr. W, a 5-year-old gelded son of Cat Thief trained by Steve Asmussen, won for the third straight time, and ninth in 30 tries.
Dr. W covered seven furlongs in 1:22.78 and returned $15.40.
